Donor Appreciation Celebration
Our first Annual Donor Appreciation celebration for major donors was a fun filled night of quilts, wine, delicious food, meeting and greeting new and old friends and an entertaining presentation by Kathy Deggendorfer and Tonye Belinda Phillips. Guests arrived at Sisters Art Works greeted by a kaleidoscope of color from the quilts created by the Journeys group entitled the “Affair of the Necklace.” Why the title? One of the Journeys members arrived at a gathering wearing a colorful and unusual necklace which became the basis of the challenge to create a quilt 18″ x 45″ inspired by the necklace.
Over 50 guests were treated to a winter evening setting, with twinkling white lights in bare branches, snowflakes and lots of candles to give a warm glow to the surroundings. Tate & Tate provided delicious appetizers which looked almost too good to eat — check out the food photos from the event on facebook and see for yourself.
Jean Wells gave a quick overview of how far SOQS has come these past 36+ years and Betty Geintke presented a history about the Journeys quilt group. The evening concluded with Kathy and Tonye talking about the impact the Quilt Show has had on their lives and their artwork along with a history of their collaborative process. Their recent work has been inspired by their travels to warmer climates during the past year which is depicted in a work in progress they shared with the audience. Stay tuned for their completed works in the near future.
